Yesterday marked six months since workers at Store #41, located at 3504 SE 92nd Ave., voted in favor of forming a union. A lot has happened since that historic vote, including the addition of a second store to the Burgerville Workers Union, and negotiations with the union are continuing.
Together with the Industrial Workers of the World d/b/a Burgerville Workers Union, we’ve met at the bargaining table seven times over the past six months and had healthy conversations about important business matters. We’ve decided on ground rules for our bargaining in good faith. The I.W.W. has drafted and formally submitted 26 proposals for Burgerville to consider.
Many of the 26 submitted proposals would have a financial impact on the company, so considering and analyzing these proposals will require due diligence and close analysis.
The work that goes into this first contract is enormously important, and all parties are taking it very seriously. The formation of a union is a long-term decision, and the agreements that we reach on this initial contract will affect union members and the company for years to come — so, it’s imperative that we all get this right. We remain committed to our working together in a positive, productive way, and to bargaining in good faith with the union at Burgerville Stores #41 and #8.
